Denver Arts Week is an annual celebration of arts and culture across the city’s cultural institutions. As part of the celebrations Denver Museum of Nature and Science commissioned creatives to active their space for Night at the Museum. For this workshop I coordinated a collage activity for all ages using found materials. Participants were invited to build compositions using natural materials like dried flowers, herbs, and mica in addition to traditional collage materials like magazines and photos.
Fresh Fibers
This was a class designed for Steet Wise Arts, Boulder. The sessions were picked up by a school in Westminster and the session was held with 18 upper elementary students in Spring 2023.
Description: Explore street art themes though the context of fibers. This series will highlight the use of color, typography, textiles and texture. Participants will explore artists from Keith Haring to Nick Cave and their impact on art and society. Using these materials and insight into art history participants will create flags, wearable and other 3D objects. Final works will highlight the youths interests, perspectives and personal voice. This series is adaptable in length and the content can be adjusted to any age and skill level.
Runner Up
Second is the best
Runner Up is a one woman operation created by Alexandria Jimenez and ran out of a basement in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. Born out of the desire to connect people to secondhand treasures, create beautiful things and explore ways to breathe life into the discarded. All items are secondhand and/or reworked.
Runner Up specializes in cute, cool and kitsch, items that span time and design. The shop is full of surprises and inventory fluctuates week to week. All pieces are pretty unique in their own way but there are a few themes around here; vintage plastics, beaded and glam pieces, vintage wearables (60s, 70s, 80s), art, fake food items, coffee table books and denim.
In addition to curated collections Runner Up is available for personal shopping, custom orders and styling services. Have a piece you want re-worked? Need a unique gift? Have an event that you want to shine at? Hop over to IRL and spit your idea.
